The CITB Health, Safety and Environment test (HS&E test), often referred to as the CITB touch screen test or CSCS touch screen test, is an essential part of obtaining your CSCS Green Labourer Card.

Many delegates require a proof of pass immediately following their training course, however pass certificates are not issued immediately by accrediting bodies such as CITB.

CSCS's primary objective is to provide evidence that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out.

The H&S Awareness course, also known as Site Safety Awareness course, is one of the most popular routes for anyone looking to take their first step towards obtaining a CSCS Labourers (Green) Card.

The one day course provides delegates with a basic awareness of health & safety, and how H&S affects their job role. It is most suitable for those who have entered, or are about to enter, the construction and civil engineering industry.

About 80% of the UK construction industries and contractors require their workers to have a valid CSCS card. Every card is specific to the trade of an individual worker and has a computer chip on it, which stores information about the worker and can be checked on the site at any time.

Good question! In the summer of 2014, changes were made to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. The changes introduced a new range of cards to the scheme, and the green card became the Labourer CSCS card.

While there isn't an actual SMSTS card, your SMSTS certificate can be added to your CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card to show additional experience to the qualifications CSCS asks for.

CSCS Labourer Card Qualifications

To obtain your CSCS Card (AKA - Green Card), first you MUST have passed:

• Health, Safety & Environment Test. Also known as the Touch Screen Test (within last two years of your CSCS Card application).

You will also need to have passed ONE of the following popular courses:

• The CITB Health and Safety Awareness course(within 5 years of your CSCS Card application). 
• The IOSH Working Safely course* (within 3 years of your CSCS Card application).
  
  * This cannot be the online version. It must be the IOSH Working Safely classroom version of the course.
